Hi Students,
Here's the current events assignment in case you need a reminder :)

Current Events Assignment (30 points)
This assignment is an opportunity to become informed about a current news story that affects our country or our world.  Throughout the year, you’ll be responsible for short reports on a current event of your choosing.

Please follow these instructions:
1.     Read and cut out (or print) an article from a newspaper, news magazine, or reputable website.  Note:  Your article should be about something that affects society as a whole.  It should not be a local crime report or a trivial story.
2.     On a piece of paper (it may be typed or written), include the following:
a.      Bibliographic information about the article (title of article, title of news source, date, page number) (3 points)
b.     A summary of the main points of the story in complete sentences (between 50 and 100 words). (10 points)
c.      An explanation of why you chose this story, including why the story is important and to whom the story important. (5 points)
d.     An explanation of what questions you have after reading the story. (What more information would you like to know?) (5 points)
e.      An analysis of whether or not you think this story is objective (unbiased), or does the author’s opinion influence the story in some way. (5 points)
3.     Attach the article to your report. (2 points)

Note:  Capitalization, grammar, and spelling count in this assignment.   Use spellcheck or a dictionary and proofread your paper.  J

Test on the Roman Empire is coming up!

In order to avoid conflicts with our Roosevelt Activity Day (RAD!), your test on the Roman Empire and Early Christianity will be Monday, October 10 (Red Day) and Tuesday, October 11 (White Day).  Review days will be Wednesday, October 5th (White Day) and Thursday, October 6th (Red Day).  Note that RAD is on Friday, October 7th.  We have class that day, but it is a short period.  We'll have some review time and some time for a Roman Legacies video that day.
